Welcome to Cloud City Wheels

Shillong isn’t just a city; it’s a feeling. It’s the mist rolling over the pine trees, the sound of waterfalls crashing in the distance, and the cool breeze that greets you even in summer. But to truly experience this, you can’t be stuck inside a taxi window. You need to feel the air. You need a bike rental in Shillong that understands the rider’s spirit.

At Cloud City Wheels, we are riders first and a business second. We established our service in Police Bazar because we realized that travelers were struggling to find well-maintained two-wheelers in Meghalaya. Most rentals offered old scooters that struggled on steep inclines or bikes that broke down halfway to Cherrapunji.

We changed that. Today, we are proud to be the highest-rated service for scooty rental in Shillong and premium motorcycle hire. whether you are a solo backpacker looking for a budget-friendly Honda Dio or a group of friends wanting the power of a Royal Enfield Himalayan, we have the perfect machine for you.

Why the “Local” Advantage Matters

Meghalaya’s roads can be tricky. Google Maps doesn’t always show you the potholes or the fog zones. When you rent from us, you get a free personalized itinerary consultation. We tell you which roads are under construction, where to find the best petrol pumps, and the secret viewpoints that tourists miss.

Our “No breakdown” Promise

A breakdown in the middle of a remote forest is a nightmare. That’s why our fleet is serviced every week. We check brake pads, tire treads, chain lubrication, and engine health rigorously. If you do face an issue within city limits, our mobile mechanic team is just a call away.

Popular Road Trip Itineraries

Don’t just rent a bike; experience the journey. Here are the top 3 routes our customers love, curated by local experts.

Shillong to Cherrapunji Bike Trip
54 KM (One Way) 2 Hrs

1. The Waterfall Trail: Shillong to Cherrapunji (Sohra)

This is the classic Meghalaya road trip. The road from Shillong to Sohra is one of the most scenic in India, crossing the mist-covered Mawkdok Dympep Valley.

Must-Visit Stops:

  • Mawkdok Bridge: Stop here for zip-lining and Maggi. The view of the V-shaped valley is stunning.
  • Wei Sawdong Falls: A 3-tiered waterfall that requires a short trek. The bike parking is safe here.
  • Nohkalikai Falls: India’s tallest plunge waterfall. The road leading here is smooth and perfect for cruising.
  • Arwah Cave: A limestone cave with fossils, easily accessible by bike.

Rider Tip: The weather in Sohra changes in minutes. It can be sunny at 1 PM and zero visibility fog at 1:15 PM. Always keep your headlights ON.

Shillong to Dawki Bike Trip
82 KM (One Way) 3 Hrs

2. The Crystal River Run: Shillong to Dawki

Ride to the border of India and Bangladesh. The transition from the cool pine forests of Shillong to the humid, tropical betel nut groves of Dawki is fascinating.

Must-Visit Stops:

  • Pynursla: A foggy town halfway through, great for a tea break.
  • Mawlynnong: Known as Asia’s cleanest village. A small detour of 15km from the main highway.
  • Umngot River (Dawki): The famous clear water. You can park your bike near the suspension bridge and take a boat ride.
  • Shnongpdeng: 7km ahead of Dawki. This is the spot for riverside camping and kayaking.

Rider Tip: The last 15km stretch towards Dawki often has heavy truck traffic crossing the border. Ride carefully and avoid overtaking on blind turns.

Shillong to Laitlum Canyon Bike Trip
24 KM (One Way) 1 Hr

3. The Canyon Ride: Shillong to Laitlum

Short on time? This is the perfect half-day trip. Laitlum Canyon offers a view that rivals the Scottish Highlands.

The Experience:

The road to Laitlum takes you through old Khasi villages and rolling grasslands. The destination itself is a cliff edge looking down into a deep valley. It’s incredibly windy here—hold onto your helmets!

Rider Tip: The road is narrow but scenic. It’s a great spot for sunset, but ensure you ride back before it gets pitch dark as there are no streetlights.

Essential Riding Tips for Meghalaya

☁️

Handling the Fog

Meghalaya is the “Abode of Clouds” for a reason. Visibility can drop to zero instantly, especially in Upper Shillong and Cherrapunji.
Tip: Always ride with your headlights ON (low beam works better in fog). Use hazard lights if stopped. Do not speed.

⚠️

Road Conditions

While the main highways are smooth tarmac, side roads to waterfalls can be slippery due to moss and rain.
Tip: Avoid sudden braking on wet curves. Use both brakes gently. If you see a patch of wet green moss on the road, go slow!

📶

Network & Connectivity

Jio and Airtel work best in Shillong and major tourist spots. However, near the Bangladesh border (Dawki) and deep forests, the network may disappear.
Tip: Download “Offline Maps” on Google Maps before you leave the hotel.

🧥

Clothing

Even in summer, the wind on a bike can get cold.
Tip: Always carry a windcheater or light jacket. A raincoat or poncho is mandatory as it can rain anytime in Meghalaya.
